December 2012 Update
Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting as often as usual in the past week. I have been doing some traveling and enjoying time with family during the holiday season. I just wanted to let you know what to expect in the coming weeks.
1. Review: Filson Sportsman’s Bag 266
The Filson Sportsman’s bag 266 is a very unique bag and I have never seen so many zippers (or pockets) in one place. Where does this bag excel? Where does it fall short? Is it the right bag for you? Stay tuned…
2. Filson 257 an Alternate Use?
We all know that the Filson 257 is a great briefcase option for students or for those days when the 256 Original Briefcase just doesn’t cut it. But I have been using it in a different way and I think you may be surprised how versatile this bag truly is.
3. First Look: Filson Small Duffle Bag 220
I will also be posting a First Look mini-review for the Filson Small Duffle Bag 220. This bag seems like it would make the perfect weekender. Find out what I think after putting it through its paces and find out which models may be better for your particular needs.
So that is where we are headed by the end of the year. I will also continue posting more iconic Filson images and offering my advice. Which reminds me, answering your questions (and responding to comments) is one of my favorite parts of FilsonFan, so please keep them coming.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday season and a happy, healthy new year!

Filson Web Site Redesign
Last week, Filson Co. updated the look of their web site and I think it is just what the doctor ordered. The new design features a fresh, clean appearance, while still effectively communicating the classic appeal of the Filson brand.
The new, modern look is sure to appeal to younger customers, while not alienating its more mature fan base. The site features a white background with dark blue accents and a refined navigation structure that makes it easy to quickly find exactly what you are looking for. The site also features many more bold, colorful images that make you want to drop what you are doing and immediately embark on an Alaskan expedition.
Be sure to check out the new arrivals for Fall 2012 and let us know what you think of the redesign.
History of an Iconic Brand
Great companies are built on a set of unwavering principles. The best way to understand what makes Filson products so special is to learn a bit about the unique history of the C.C. Filson company and about its founder, Clinton C. Filson.
C.C. Filson, a railroad conductor by profession, moved to Seattle in 1892 and began to manage a small trading post. By the Fall of 1897, the Klondike Gold Rush was in full swing, bringing a rapid influx of prospectors to the area. These men were not properly equipped for the harsh conditions that they faced and were in desperate need of proper clothing, blankets and outdoor gear.
Mr. Filson observed a need in a rapidly expanding market that was not being filled, so he decided to use his expertise to create his own outdoor gear specifically suited for the unique challenges being faced by the prospectors. The company, originally named C.C. Filson’s Pioneer Alaska Clothing and Blanket Manufacturers, was born.
The company quickly built its reputation as a purveyor of the finest goods available, based upon the belief that if you build a superior product, it would render the competition irrelevant. To this end, C.C. Filson created the famous Filson guarantee:
We guarantee every item purchased from us. No more, no less. Your satisfaction is the sole purpose of our transaction.
This short, simple statement is not only a guarantee, but is actually a mission statement that has remained unchanged in over 100 years. Quite simply, Filson builds the best quality gear, suited for the most extreme conditions that is guaranteed to perform. This customer-centered approach to business is what causes Filson enthusiasts to form such an emotional connection to the brand.
In addition, the ability to adapt to an ever-changing market, while remaining true to their commitment to world-class quality is what makes Filson so special. These timeless principles were infused into the culture of the company in 1897 by C.C. Filson, and they are what the brand is best known for today.
